Did you know...

that it's a great time to clean up your energy bills as well? Keep these cost-saving tips in mind as you're chasing those dust bunnies around.

Bunny cleaning windows

Seal windows

While cleaning windows, look for gaps or cracked caulking that can cause air leaks. Seal leaks by cleaning out the area and spreading caulk evenly around the windowpane following manufacturer's instructions.

Bunny dusting

Brighten things up

Dust accumulation on bulbs can block light. Wipe off bulbs to get more light for your energy dollar. Replace incandescent bulbs with LEDs, which are more energy efficient and last longer.

Bunny cleaning fridge

Clean the fridge

Vacuum the coils behind the refrigerator. Dust buildup causes the unit to run less efficiently. Clean out the inside of the fridge as well. An overstuffed refrigerator or freezer can restrict airflow, reducing efficiency.

Bunny cleaning air filters

Clear the air

Dust accumulation around HVAC vents could be a sign of leaky ductwork. Remove vents and clean them. Vacuum inside ducts as far as you can reach. To ensure air flow, make sure vents aren't blocked by rugs or furniture.

Bunny checking filters

Check filters

A dirty HVAC filter is less effective at keeping your indoor air clean. Replace it regularly according to manufacturer's instructions. Your dehumidifier and air purifier may have filters that need cleaned or replaced.

Bunny mopping

Clean green

Many household cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that can pollute the environment and cause health problems. Use nontoxic cleaning solutions and methods. Look for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Safer Choice label (www.epa.gov/saferchoice).

By taking the time to save energy, you can live more sustainably this spring and all year long.
