Inspector Energy investigating the basement

Investigation Report

Air is escaping in multiple places around the basement, reducing comfort and wasting energy. The following actions will help solve the issue:

  • Fill tiny gaps in rim joists with spray foam insulation. Fill larger gaps by cutting and stuffing pieces of insulation.
  • Seal openings around pipes and wiring with spray foam insulation.
  • Replace older windows with glass block or ENERGY STAR®-certified energy-efficient windows.
  • Hire a qualified contractor to properly seal and insulate crawlspace walls.

With these measures, the basement is more energy efficient and comfortable. Case closed.
