Peak Reduction Program

AC Unit

Maximize Savings, Minimize Hassle with Peak Reduction

Peak Reduction Program participants have a small load management device installed near the outside central air conditioning unit. During a very limited number of peak demand events, which occur only on the hottest days of summer, Appalachian Power will activate this device to cycle an air conditioner's compressor on and off in 15-minute intervals. While activated, an air conditioning system's fan will continue to circulate room temperature air through the ductwork during the off cycles. Events will have minimal impact on the temperature of a home and most participants do not notice a change.

Enrollment capacity is currently full. Please check back in the future.

Load Management Events

Standard (Non Emergency) Events have been scheduled for the dates listed below. Appalachian Power’s Residential Peak Reduction Program events can occur between the hours of Noon and 8:00 p.m., excluding holidays and weekends, and typically last no more than three (3) hours. Peak Reduction Events reduce the customer’s central air conditioner compressor run time by 50%. The air handler fan will continue to circulate already cooled air throughout the home. If customers have any questions or concerns, please have them contact this number: 888-261-4567.
